Well, I have finished the hand embroidery and have managed to sew the strip together. I have added the first border, it is a soft pinky peachy colour. Looking at it now I think I need to trim it down to about 2” finished, at the moment it will be 3½” finished.
I found the pattern for the friendship braid on The Quilter’s Cache. I used 20 long fat quarter fabrics, I cut them into 2½” strips, and then cross cut them into 7½” strips I then followed the sewing sequence as explained in the pattern. I cut the leftover strips into 5½” strips and I am currently sewing these together to use as the final border. I hope to have a finished quilt sized of 88” x 85” (223cm x 215cm).
I must say I did enjoy the time spent with my friends and now I’m ready to get back into my sewing room! Looking at my calendar I’m not sure if this is going to happen, we seem to have hit the silly season on this side of the world, I don’t know how much machine sewing I will be doing in the next few weeks, but I will definitely be doing some hand work.
I started this tiny little hexagon crochet project!
Hope to share this with you next week!

Quilts come and go, but friends are forever, so time spent with them is gold. But it’s good to make progress too. I’m looking forward to seeing the crochet, and the embroidery in your photos is beautiful.
Hi Kate
You so right, chatting with friends also help with the creative “juices”.
Thank for visiting

What a beautiful pattern! I have dabbled at quilting small items, but nothing like that! Just lovely!
Thank you for visiting and liking my Friendship braid quilt. I just love it and can’t wait to see it on the bed!

Very pretty. The colours and appliqué give it a vintage feel.
Thanks for that! That’s exactly the look I was looking for! Love

The embroidery really adds interest too. Gives it another layer decoration. Lovely.
I admire your creations. I have to be honest, I only know running stitch, a crooked one.
You know hat that’s all I could do as well! Thanks for visiting.

Is that hand or machine applique? It looks great!
Sorry! It’s machine appliqué!
The quilt looks beautiful! Well done! 🙂
Thank you.
Your work is so neat and tidy! I find it most inspiring. The braid quilt looks like it might be a good candidate for me to try. I don’t have experience with shapes beyond squares, but this doesn’t look too complicated.
It’s a really easy strip and I love it!
Thanks for popping in!

Thanks Najlaa.
Such a lovely quilt!
Thanks Nina.
Such beautiful fresh colours and I love the embroidery! I have been hand appliquéing a queen bed size quilt for sometime now. I started it when I was first married. It is still not finished. I love it… Maybe when I retire in a few years It will get finished!
